The runner’s stretch: Have you ever witnessed an athlete stretching in this way? If you had not known what she was doing it would appear as though she was trying to push that tree over. As ridiculous as that may sound, many of us try to do just that in our own lives. Seemingly we press into situations and circumstances of life with the purpose and motive of making them move. We exert all of our energy in trying to change situations and people.
We speak to mountains and expect them to move neglecting to pay attention to the mountains in our own hearts. We pray according to what we think will make US more comfortable. We ask God and yet fail to receive because we ask with wrong purpose, wrong motive and with the intention of getting the result WE desire. Not what HE desires. I say this humbly, knowing that I have done it myself. There are encumbrances inside of us that we don’t even realize are there and we need to let God bring them to our attention.
The truth is, it may seem easier to try to force change than to look on the inside of our own hearts for change. I like what Staci Wallace says, “
You cannot change the world around you until you change the world within you.”
Now we know that in the photo this young lady is really stretching herself, a necessary step in conditioning herself for a good run. If you are pressing into a situation waiting for it to change or move, adjust your focus. Instead
press into our immovable, never-changing God and HIS way of doing things and allow yourself to be stretched.
Let’s press on towards the goal to win……
IN HIM Philippians 3:14a
