EMwomen Health & Fitness Group

One of EMwomen's core values is seeing women experience God's best - spirit, soul AND BODY! With all of the demands on women today, nutrition and fitness often gets overlooked or pushed down on the list of "to-dos". EMwomen is dedicated to helping women regain their vitality and live the life of balanced success they were destined to live. Already, we have seen women losing over 100 pounds and keep it off. We have some of the best partnerships with doctors, coaches, and speakers with a passion to see you find the body and life of your dreams.

This group is a place for you to connect with our National Fitness Director, Gracie Updyke, Dr. Joseph Christiano, Staci Wallace, and other women, like you, who are on the journey of living a healthy life, mentally, physically and spiritually. Ask question, seek advice, post your goals, gain accountability and more.

Here is the EMzone Worksheet that Staci and Gracie spoke about on last weeks call - EMzone Training (PDF)

If you haven't already done so, listen to the FREE conference call on Staci's profile page.

This is marathon weekend in my area. It brings me back to two years ago when I ran my first half marathon. I wasn't sure I could finish the race, however I set out with a positive attitude. Two hours and forty minutes later, I crossed the finish line - best feeling ever!!!
This year I set out to either have a pb or to just finish. My goals are to be active for as long as I can. It doesn't have to be to have the best race everytime. Let's face it, I will most likely never come in with the top finishers. My goal IS to be the best I can be therefore, I KEEP ON MOVING!

I want to give a HUGE shout out to Denise for fitting into a size 14 today! Considering she started at a size 32, I would say that is pretty AMAZING!!!!! How is everyone doing on your summer workout plans? Any slackers willing to confess?

I pray each of you are able to find God's best in your wellness plan. Please let us know if we can help.

Since the emzone training was explained, it has changed my view on exercising. When I workout with others, I am constantly reminding them to slow down. I always knew that change takes time. After 2 years of struggling through many runs, I finally realize that I need to be patient with my body and my heart.
I recently had severe knee pain during a 17km run that resulted in a 9k run and 3k walk. Before emzone, I would have rested a day then got back out there quickly, thinking I couldn't lose any more workouts this would have cause more injury). Now, after emzone, I discovered that I can let my knee rest, and still get a ton of benefit from walks and minimal running (when I feel like it). Thank you!

Great call and information; there are many Thursday nights I don't get home in time to be on the conference call so I really, appreciate that I can go to Staci's page and listen later. Thanks so much again to Staci and Gracie for sharing your knowledge and the time you have spent preparing for us. God Bless you many times over. Love, Julia

Okay...count me in on the 5K!

I'm an avid fan of The Biggest Loser and I think, "If those people can handle the pressure of Jillian -- pushing/proding/poking/paralyzing them -- I think I can do my little fitness routines -- walking/treadmill/weight lifting!

I have a friend that sent me his comments after he hired a Personal Trainer -- his words were "Don't exercise -- you might die!" Then he said, "Okay, I know that sounds dramatic but let me explain. You see, part of my new year resolution was to get into a fitness program and get healthy and tone up a little bit. So here's what I did. I joined a gym for the first time in my life. :-) And to make sure I'm committed, I also hired a personal trainer for the first time (Did you know they charge $99 an hour? I hesitated at first but it's totally worth it.) So I met up with my trainer on Wednesday morning to start training. I thought he was going to start me out easy like on a treadmill for an hour and that's it. Boy, was I wrong! He actually had me "work out" doing all kinds of stuff. Well, after about 15 minutes I literally passed out for 7 minutes. Everything got blurred and then I can't see anymore. It was as if I had my eyes closed. So he helped me (more like carried me :-) really) to the yoga room to lie down. He was telling me, "Breathe deeply" and I was thinking, "Dude, I could barely control myself and barely able to breathe. What do you mean 'just breathe deeply'?" So anyway, after 7 minutes, I started to see again and gain consciousness. Then he asked me if I was okay and the next thing I know is that we were back working out again. It was absolutely insane! :-) The moral of the story is this: I was in a lot worse shape than I thought. I must have been in denial all this time. There's another thing I realized as I struggled with the routine and my trainer kept saying, "Just breathe deeply" over and over again. I've taken that statement to heart in more ways than exercising. "Breathe deeply" is my new way of thinking when I encounter any type of adversity or stress. It's funny but everytime I take my thoughts away from what I was doing or thinking and just concentrate on breathing, things just get much easier. And having a Coach is huge! He pushed me way beyond what I can push myself to do. So much so that I had to come back the next day, and again today and tomorrow."

I shared my friends' thoughts with you as an encouragement, both in not giving up on your fitness goals and taking time to "breathe deeply" and also to reinforce the "free" coaching we get from EMwomen! It's sure not "Jillian" but it sure is a means to making us fit in life and body!! What a blessing!

Garvan Gardens is always a good idea for a walk and maybe a skip but I do not know about for a run.
